The Burlington School District Parent University is an innovative educational model that promotes learning for parents of BSD students through a holistic multi-generational approach, taking families’ challenges, needs and educational goals into account for maximum impact on student success. The program teaches valuable skills and knowledge that benefit both families and children (e.g., parenting skills, budgeting,  First Aid CPR certification) and promotes an inclusive school culture, helping participants to feel welcome and valued in their school community, which is crucial in empowering them to become a partner in their children’s education. The program is designed by Burlington School District employees and facilitated by a collaborative management team comprised of school district employees and community partners who share a common vision for our community, each bringing years of experience and expertise in serving low income and at risk populations or a collective impact.

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Community,
On Behalf of the Parent University at Burlington Kids, I invite you to join City of Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, Burlington School District Superintendent Yaw Obeng, Burlington High School Principal Amy Mellencamp and our Parent University partners on Friday, December 18th at 3:30 p.m. for the graduation ceremony of the second Parent University class. The ceremony will take place in the Burlington High School Auditorium at 57 Institute Road.
The 23 parents graduating have been working diligently since mid-October in their various classes, and we are excited to celebrate their accomplishments and honor their dedicated learning. Community partners, staff and a few parents will share about their experiences this fall as part of the ceremony, a slideshow will be shared and light refreshments will be provided.
Parent University would not have been possible without the encouragement and support of so many organizations, local businesses, the State Refugee Office, the Burlington School District English Language Learning Department, Food Services Department and Information Technology Department, as well as individuals from our community. We are grateful to everyone involved in bringing this idea to fruition. We hope you can join us in this important celebration!
An RSVP is appreciated if possible.Thank you.
In partnership,
Ali Dieng
Parent University Manager
